Science Futures was proud to sponsor the Outstanding Commitment to Bioscience Studies prize at this year’s UHI Perth Prize Giving, celebrating students who have shown exceptional dedication to their studies and future careers in science.
Congratulations to this year’s deserving winner, Barbara Kaczowka.
A Journey into a Career in Science
Barbara’s educational journey at UHI Perth is a remarkable example of commitment, perseverance and academic progression. It also demonstrates that there are many different pathways into a career in science.
After joining the college in 2021, she began her studies in the Language School, developing the English language skills needed to pursue her ambition of studying Bioscience. From there, she then progressed to Level 5 Bioscience and continued through the science curriculum to achieve her HNC in Bioscience qualification.
Over three years within the Science department, she has consistently demonstrated dedication to her studies and a determination to succeed. Along the way, she did this while also overcoming the additional challenge of studying in a second language.
As a result, Barbara’s progression from language studies to higher-level science qualifications represents a significant personal and academic achievement. It reflects the hard work and persistence she has shown throughout her time at UHI Perth. Today, she is one step closer to achieving her long-term goal of a career in pharmacy.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists
Barbara’s story proves that there are many opportunities and pathways available through science. Whether you’re leaving school, returning to education or exploring a new direction, there is a range of options available in the life sciences sector through college, university, apprenticeships and work-based learning.
At Science Futures, we’re proud to work with education partners like UHI Perth to inspire and support the next generation of scientists, helping people discover the opportunities available across Tayside’s growing life sciences sector.
Congratulations once again, Barbara, on this well-deserved award. We wish you every success as you continue your journey towards a career in science.
